Basqal

Basqal was one of the weaving centers of Shirvan on middle centuries. All population of Basqal was engaged in silk weaving historically. Different type of silk kerchief, blanket cover, qanovuz materials were weaving here. Dyer, painting, weaving and silk professions were passed through generations, developed and reached till our days.

Ismayilly region was established as region in november of 1931 year.

The area is 2074 sq.km. It situates between 40035` and 41005`north latitude, 47045`and 48030`east longtitude. The population is nearly 75017 persons (01.01.2002).

It consists of 1 city (Ismayilly city), 2 city type settlements (Lahij and Basqal), 106 villages. Region center Ismayilly city got the status of city on 14 januarry 1967 year. (40047`north latitude, 48010 east longtitude).

Ismayilly region situated in south laps of Big Caucasus is boarded with 6 administrative regions.  It is surronded by Kuba region from north, Shamakhy region from north-east, Aghsu region from south-east, Kurdemir region from south, Goychay region from south-west, Qebele region from west and north-west.
